About the Art
"The work is built up in layers. A series of tiny incremental steps accumulate to reveal shapes. I work deliberately, slowly, systematically, and allow half-conscious choices to guide my hands and disrupt patterns of accretion. One process may be repeated over and over to generate countless unique works."
"Inside all of us there are flickering moments folding into themselves. My task is to see them, hold them in mind, and take them seriously long enough that they can become tangible."
About the Artist
Ian is a Boston based Artist and sometimes teacher with a studio in Waltham, Massachusetts. With a background in jewelry and metalsmithing techniques, his work tends towards precious metal developed on the small scale. His current fascinations range across the arts and sciences and include evolutionary biology, information aesthetics, avante-garde economics, quantum mechanics, physiognomy, game design, social networks, and mycology - all of which find their way into his aesthetic explorations.
